Longstanding Distributor E-Z LOK Centralises Operations to Better Serve Customers

More than 60 years ago, a business-savy engineer named Burt Belzer moved to Southern California to capitalise on the fast-growing aerospace industry. Belzer created E-Z LOK threaded inserts that could repair stripped threads or more securely attach bolts. Today, Burt’s grandson Ben runs the business, which sells E-Z LOK inserts through large national distributors like McMaster-Carr, Grainger and Fastenal, and consumer channels including Amazon and The Home Depot.

Embracing a New Era

Tapping into new markets
Following the success of E-Z LOK inserts for metal, Burt developed versions for plastic and wood that kept sales climbing. To market the inserts, he traveled to trade shows and later began selling them through the catalogs of those leading industrial distributors. Today, the business’ revenue continues to grow about 10% annually.
Old-school operations
E-Z LOK’s Epicor ERP prevented plans to launch an ecommerce website to sell products and provide inventory visibility. Inventory management and order management were also a challenge—E-Z LOK manually calculated replenishment, tracked backordered products via hard copy and manually processed EDI orders.
Visibility drives improvement
Customers can now buy E-Z LOK products and see real-time inventory on an ecommerce website built on NetSuite’s SuiteCommerce Advanced platform, reducing phone calls. Ecommerce, financials and order data are all in one place. Far fewer orders go out late thanks to improved visibility and automated processing of EDI orders.
Ready for next-gen buyers
E-Z LOK is expanding into new threaded inserts and kits that include hardware and tools, which it hopes will draw more B2B buyers online. With NetSuite, the distributor never has to worry about costly upgrades or version lock as it grows and evolves.
